Cowboys & Aliens is already on some people’s lists for most anticipated movies of 2011. And with the director, cast and story laid out for us, I can’t argue that choice one bit.
Jon Favreau (Iron Man 2) is bringing this wild west versus space invaders story to the big screen and if he does anywhere near the job he has done in the past Cowboys & Aliens is already guaranteed to be a fun watch.
And given the fact that Favreau will have Daniel Craig (Quantum Of Solace), Harrison Ford (Extraordinary Measures), Olivia Wilde (Tron: Legacy) and Sam Rockwell (Iron Man 2) in the cast won’t hurt either. It’s a good looking and talented group and I’m looking forward to seeing them in chaps and hats and boots. Some more than others of course.
The story is set in 1873 Arizona in a sleepy little town run by Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford) who has complete control over everything. But when a stranger (Craig) comes to town without any memory of where he’s from or where’s he’s been comes to town things start to change.
The town of Absolution is attacked by Aliens by night, the townsfolk being abducted one by one, helpless against their opponents. However, as Jake starts to remember his past he realizes that he may know the solution to the problem.
So with the help of a wandering traveler (Wilde) and the townspeople who rejected him, Jake will have to lead the people of Absolution to victory and safety.
All signs point to a huge battle scene with effects and tons of awesome.
Cowboys & Aliens comes to theaters July 29, 2011.
